Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 7, 2026
Kifubara is built with a simple philosophy: your data is yours. The app's core features — board detection, scoring, and game storage — work entirely on your device. There are no user accounts and no sign-ups.
Camera and photo library
Kifubara requests access to your device's camera to photograph Go boards, and to your photo library to import board images. Photos are processed entirely on your device using on-device machine learning models. Photos are never sent to any server unless you explicitly choose to include one when submitting feedback (see below).
On-device processing
All board detection, stone recognition, and scoring happens locally on your phone or tablet. No internet connection is required for any of the app's core features.
Local storage
Your saved games (board positions, metadata, and photo thumbnails) are stored locally on your device. This data is not synced to any cloud service by Kifubara. It may be included in your device's standard backup (iCloud, Google backup) depending on your device settings.
Analytics and crash reporting
Kifubara uses Google Firebase for anonymous analytics and crash reporting:
- Analytics — anonymous usage data such as which features are used, detection success rates, and app settings (locale, theme). No photos, game data, or personally identifiable information is included.
- Crash reports — technical information only (device model, OS version, stack trace) to help us fix bugs.
This data is processed by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
Feedback
When you choose to submit feedback through the app, we collect:
- Your feedback message
- Device model, OS version, and app version (to help us reproduce issues)
- A photo, only if you choose to include one
Feedback is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Storage). Submitting feedback is entirely voluntary.
What we don't collect
- No personal information (name, email, phone number)
- No location data
- No advertising identifiers
- No photos (unless you explicitly include one in feedback)
- No game data or board positions
Third-party services
Kifubara uses Google Firebase (Analytics, Crashlytics, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage) as described above. The app does not include any advertising frameworks, social media SDKs, or other third-party tracking services.
Children's privacy
Kifubara does not knowingly collect any personally identifiable information from children or anyone else. The app does not require any personal information to function.
Data retention
Locally stored games remain on your device until you choose to delete them or uninstall the app. Analytics and crash data are retained by Firebase according to Google's standard retention policies. Feedback data is retained until it is no longer needed for app improvement.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. For significant changes, we'll also notify you within the app.
